Weather wrecks weekend's cricket fixtures

A FEROCIOUS hail storm destroyed Saturday afternoon's Gloucestershire cricket programme as, unbelievably, not a single game survived the downpour that graced all corners of the county shortly after lunchtime.

After a bright and sunny morning, dark clouds began to gather, leaving the signs of any play within the region's cricket leagues looking distinctly ominous.

Although widespread showers had taken over the skies by 2pm, a cluster of games still began in defiance of the drizzly conditions.

However, what happened next took everybody by surprise as an almighty hail storm caused games to be quickly abandoned across the county.

The storm was so ferocious that many games were abandoned instantly, with some pitches becoming totally littered with hail slush as the violent downpour took no prisoners.

The conditions were completely unplayable across the Gazette region and, although the storm eventually passed and the skies cleared, there was no chance of any games resuming play.

The region's cricket fans, as well as its players, will be hoping for a better day tomorrow as the cricket season reaches the end of May.
