GIRLS wanting to become this year's bunch of Rosebuds and take part in the Dursley Town Festival carnival on Saturday, July 16, have just one more week in which to send in their photographs.

The competition, sponsored by the Gazette, was staged last year for the first time since the 1960s.

And it was a great success with dozens of youngsters taking part.

Pictures of girls aged four to 11 will be printed in the Gazette. The girl with the most votes from readers will be crowned Dursley Rosebud 2005 and will receive a Gazette trophy and £50. The two runners-up will each receive a trophy and a cheque for £25 and £10 respectively.

Photographs (which should be head and shoulders if possible) can be send to Carole Taylor at The Gazette, Reliance House, Long Street, Dursley, GL11 4LS. Pictures must arrive no later than next Friday - June 17.

We would also be pleased to hear from "old Rosebuds" who took part in the competition in years gone-by. Last year several turned up and thoroughly enjoyed Dursley's new-look carnival.

Preparations are now well in-hand for this year's Town Festival with a week packed full of exciting events - from a guided walk, a ramble and a family picnic to a free performance of the teen musical Grease and a light-hearted look at medication and sanitation in Dursley's history.

Throughout the morning of carnival day on July 16 there will be all the usual happenings in town. The parish church tower will be open and there will be street stalls, entertainment and buskers.

The afternoon's carnival procession will leave Boulton Lane at 1pm and travel through Parsonage Street and into the Recreation field, where there will be a whole package of entertainment including rides, a beer tent, live music and other performances right through to the evening.
