You're wrong, Mike

IN response to Mike Davis's remarks to Cam Parish Council (Gazette, June 10) I feel bound to defend the incredulous accusation made against Lower Cam Playgroup's attendance record, and the reasons for which he implied we bothered to make an effort.

I am the treasurer of Lower Cam, Under 5's Playgroup and as such I took it upon myself to attend the Memorial Hall meetings. I attended six meetings in 2004 and so far two out of four meetings this year. I was happy to do so as correspondence is much easier face to face.

We have had problems in the past with sudden major increases in fees and low maintenance standards. I'm happy to say that after considering an alternative venue we decided to stay at the Memorial Hall at the promise of better facilities.

The hall standards are now much better due to the new caretaker and we had started to feel happy about being part of the 'New Improved' hall. The remarks in last week's Gazette has now potentially damaged future liaisons between the playgroup and the hall committee.

Certain members of the committee have made us feel very uncomfortable in the past when we have presented them with issues that we felt needed addressing, including a very rude response to a letter written asking them to reconsider a 100 percent rise in fees.

I cannot attend every meeting due to the fact that, like most mothers, I cannot easily leave at 7pm (bed time for small children) and find it impossible on those nights when my husband is away on business or still at work. I have a part-time job as well as being treasurer for the playgroup, and most of the parents and staff at Lower Cam under 5's are in a similar position. Please Mike Davis, give us break!!
