Perry gains second term as Dursley captain

THE recent elections for next season's captains of the senior men's section of Dursley Rugby Club saw a mix of continuity and new blood.

Mark Perry was re-elected as club/first XV captain after a good showing in his first season in that capacity.

Alan 'Sid' Smith was also re-elected as United (second team) captain as he has been for several years running, while the Nomads (third team) have a new captain in club stalwart Jon Tocknell.

Due to the recruitment of some new players and the increasing numbers coming up through the club's highly successful junior section, it is fully expected that a fourth team (the Wildebeasts) will run next season.

Phil Case was elected captain for this outfit, and the re-establishment of this team (it ran for a few seasons in the early 1990s) is another sign of the success and growth of the Stinchcombe-based Dursley club.

Light summer training is currently taking place with football on a Tuesday evening, and rugby pre-season training is due to start in early July.

All players, new and old (and young and old!) are very welcome.

Meanwhile, the awards for last season's players of the year and other club awards will be made at the club barbecue on Saturday, July 2, from 7pm.

All members are encouraged to attend - anyone wishing to attend or wanting further details should contact Mark Perry on 01453 844735.
