SLIMBRIDGE Youth FC has been accepted into the prestigious Gloucestershire County Youth U18 League.
"This is terrific news for us," said Rob Hemper, former club secretary. "The lads going into this league were some of the very first who joined the club at under 9s and u10s seven years ago and it is a fitting end to their time as members of the club to play in this league.
"It is also a fitting tribute to the person who started the youth set-up back then, namely Kevin Nelmes," added Hemper.
"Kevin, now an FA qualified coach, has been appointed to coach the side again."
Nelmes said that he was delighted to have started the club and was thrilled to be offered the chance to take the lads on into the County Youth League.
The team will be playing at Wisloe Road on the main home ground of Slimbridge AFC on Sundays, with some midweek floodlit games.
Training will take place at Slimbridge playing field on Wednesday nights 6-7pm starting this Wednesday, July 13.
Any players from the area who think that they may be ready for this challenge are welcome to attend. It is pointed out that it is not a prerequisite that players must sign for Slimbridge AFC. Players from any team can play and any players who excel at this level may be asked to sign Hellenic forms for the first team if they so wish.
Further information can be obtained from Kevin Nelmes on 07990 998291.
