Villages celebrate victory day

VILLAGERS in Hawkesbury Upton were whisked back to 1940s to mark the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War.

The day of commemoration and celebration was held at the village hall and attractions included a WRVS soup kitchen, treasure hunt and a sing-a-long with children from the local primary school.

Drama group Razzle also performed the war-time play Yes, We Have No Bananas, while revellers were also treated to some vintage film footage from the 40s.

The event helped to raise funds for the Royal British Legion's Second World War Anniversary Appeal.
