A WOTTON-under-Edge resident has spoken of her shock at having her shopping stolen from a pushchair while a toddler was sitting in it.
Sarah James, 25 of Wortley Terrace, was with her friend Emma Bond and Emma's two and half-year-old son Toby when the shopping was taken at around 3pm on Saturday.
The trio had spent the afternoon at the Blue Coat Primary School summer fair and were on their way home when the theft occurred.
Miss James said: "We decided to do a bit of shopping on the way home. We had been to the Co-op and then stopped at the News Market near my house. We were only in the shop for a very short time and we had left the shopping on the pushchair with Toby in it.
"It wasn't until we got to my house and I said I would pop my shopping inside that we realised that it had gone. We went back to the shop to see if it had been left there but realised that it had been stolen.
"You don't expect it to happen in broad daylight. There was nobody about when we went in the shop and there was no sign of anybody when we came out.
"We had cakes we had bought from the fete and a few items from the Co-op. It was less than £10 in value but it is the principle of it. I think that people are so low to steal cakes and washing powder."
She added: "It is shocking to think that somebody took the shopping with Toby there. He couldn't have done anything about it because he couldn't have shouted at them to stop and he would have thought the person who did this was me or Emma."
Miss James said they did not report the incident to the police as there was not a lot that could be done.
"We did think about reporting it but there is nothing the police could do about it," she explained. "We just want the person who did this to feel guilty about what they have done."
