Yes, all's well with our festival

SPECIAL tribute has been paid to the young people of Dursley by one of the organisers of last week's town festival.

Sophie Shuttlewood said: "The energy and enthusiasm of our young people is wonderful - they were particularly patient while waiting for the 200-strong carnival procession to get in order.

"Local organisations produced a brilliant procession."

Ms Shuttlewood said: "The Dursley Festival this year was a really successful event and we certainly had the weather on our side this time."

Taking part in the procession were the Dursley Rosebuds - chosen by Gazette readers - Lucy Smith, Olivia Paige Rose, Eve Hatton and Siobhan Frankcom.

The annual Battle of the Bands took place outside for the first time this year, with local bands whose members were all under 18 playing music on a specially constructed stage on the recreation ground.

Many residents and visitors enjoyed the 'battle', organised by Steve Smith from Intersound, which could be heard around Dursley through the afternoon and early evening on Saturday.

Other contributions by young people included excerpts from Grease performed in the festival's marquee and Much Ado About Nothing performed at Rednock School.

One of the highlights of the week was a town picnic, which involved 120 local people eating and playing games together on the recreation ground.
