Youngsters will make the grade

CHILDREN from the Severn Area Shotokai Karate-Do took part in their karate gradings at Katharine Lady Berkeley's School near Wotton-under-Edge on Saturday.

Severn Area Shotokai is passionate about helping children gain confidence, self-discipline, respect for themselves and others, learning life skills that will make them become good members of their communities whilst also being able to defend themselves if necessary.

Severn Area Shotokai teach about three hundred children each week at various venues.

"The most rewarding result of being involved in teaching the children is hearing from parents and teachers that since the children have been practising their confidence, co-ordination, focus, attitude, and ability to concentrate have improved considerably," said technical director Maria Marfleet.

"In Severn Area we believe in creating role models for the children, we show them respect and we get it in return.

"Whatever we want the children to do we do ourselves - the rules are for us all, not just for them," she added.
