Kingswood go through

Tetbury Town 1 Kingswood 1

(Kingswood won 5-4 on penalties)

This was a fiercly contested Reg Davis Memorial Cup Tie between two of last seasons promoted teams.

Kingswood sneaked it when Adam Eldridge slotted home his teams fifth penalty, Tetbury Town having missed their first kick.

Both clubs had to make changes from their midweek winning teams due to holidays and injuries, but produced a fully committed performance in front of a good crowd on a warm afternoon.

An intriguing battle commenced with defences generally on top, but chances were being created.

Kingswood took the lead after 25 minutes when Simon Clarke's throw was headed on by Paul Freeman and Barrie Dibden made space to fire the ball into the net from close in.

Tetbury gradually applied pressure as the interval approached and in the dying seconds of the half, Hungarian Zoltan Takacs converted a cross from the right which deceived Andy Rodman in the visitors goal.

The second half saw the sides cancel one another out until the last couple of minutes.

Tetbury broke clear of the Kingswood defence and with two players able to choose how to beat keeper Rodman, they completely messed things up.

The keeper now had the ball, found Paul Bleaken on the left and his pass to Barrie Dibden saw the striker hit a great shot which cannoned off the crossbar, back to Eldridge who hit it first time, only for the ball to skim over the bar to safety for the home team.

There followed some excellent penalty kicks from both teams with Kingswood jubilant at the conclusion.

They now go on to a semi-final show down at Bishops Cleeve on September 10, ko 2.30pm, in the hope of reaching their second final in this competion, having won it in 1998.
