His partner Amanda Holland, 18, of Draycott, Cam, is charged with assault causing grevious bodily harm.

She is also charged with two counts of cruelty to a child. The charges relate to the period between November 1-11 last year.

No pleas have been entered.

Judge Jamie Tabor QC heard that several experts would be called to a potential trial that would last seven days.

He said the case would be looked at again within the next five weeks and set a trial date for December 5.

He told them: "You both face very serious charges and it is vital that you have every opportunity to discuss it with those who represent you." He released them both on conditional bail.
