Kingswood get on top of hardy Hill

Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One Warden Hill United 1 Kingswood 2

KINGSWOOD began life in Division One of the Northern Senior League with an excellent 2-1 win at Warden Hill.

The visitors' joint management team of Martin Bleaken and Keith Spill saw their team play some terrific football as they got the new season off to a flying start.

Kingswood were almost trying to be too precise early on but opened the scoring just after the half hour when Adam Harbor slotted home after Ian Gosling's ball had split the defence.

United tried to rally but rarely got through to Andy Rodman in the visitors goal, the defensive trio of Mike Rodman, Freeman and Dix playing well.

Barrie Dibden doubled Kingswood's lead early in the second period and it looked like his side would cruise to victory.

However, having seen their opponents take their foot off the pedal, Warden Hill pulled a goal back when a cross found Neil Wheeler who turned the ball past Rodman despite miskicking.

The following ten minutes saw Kingswood look uncomfortable for the first time in the game and they conceded three corners.

However, the defence remained solid and the visitors went close to adding further goals through Gavin Dibden, Paul Bleaken, Harbor and Gosling.

Kingswood are not in action again until Saturday, September 10 when they take on Bishops Cleeve Reserves in the semi-final of the Reg Davis Memorial Cup.
