Police hunt after woman raped

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a young woman was seriously sexually assaulted in Wotton-under-Edge on Bank-Holiday Monday.

The attack happened in the early hours of Monday, August 29 when a 24-year-old woman was confronted by a man as she walked through the town.

The woman was walking down Ludgate Hill between the hours of 4.30am and 6.30am when she was approached by a man who engaged her in conversation.

Police spokesperson Matt Ford said: "After a brief verbal exchange the male pushed the woman against a wall and subjected her to a serious sexual assault before running away from the scene."

The man is described as white, between 19 and 20 years old, 5ft 10ins tall with a medium build.

Mr Ford said: "He had short, shaved hair and a pierced eyebrow."

The attacker was reported to be wearing tracksuit bottoms and a T-shirt at the time of the attack, and he spoke to his victim in a Gloucester accent.

After two weeks the police are desperate for any witnesses to come forward to help with their investigation into the incident.

Anyone who recognises the description, or who has information about the attack, is asked to call Stroud police on 0845 090 1234 quoting incident number 624 of September 2.

Alternatively they can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
