Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two

Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division Two Charfield 5 Mushet and Coalway 1

CHARFIELD maintained their excellent start to the season with another high scoring victory.

Pointless Forest of Dean side Mushet and Coalway did not perhaps deserve to lose 5-1 but two late goals put a nice gloss on the scoreline for the home side.

The hosts recalled both Steve Spill and Jamie Halliday and also gave a debut to Sam Honeybourne.

Charfield gained the initiative early on and opened the scoring in the 16th minute. Lee Harper stabbed the ball home and the home side then doubled their lead on the half hour with a goal from top-scorer Alex May.

Mushet should well have got themselves back into the game after that but, after a penalty was awarded for pushing, Jenkins missed the target. Charfield added a third on the hour when Joe Findlay chipped the goalkeeper from 20 yards.

Ellis grabbed a goal for the visitors with ten minutes remaining but that only proved to be the catalyst for a fine finish from the home side. Tom Higgins curled a wonderful free-kick over the wall to make it 4-0 and May completed the scoring in the final minute.

The club would like thank The Plough, Charfield, for sponsoring the match ball.
