Gloucester Division Two

Gloucester Division Two Cheltenham Saras 8 Dursley 25

DURSLEY followed up their excellent Powergen Vase victory with a good win over Cheltenham Saracens.

The visitors opted to play up the Folly Ground slope in the first half and soon found their rhythm. From an opposition lineout, Matt Sprague stole the ball and galloped ten yards to score the first try of the game in the corner, though the conversion attempt failed.

Saracens replied with a penalty from the restart after Andy Scott was caught offside.

However, Dursley replied with a period of sustained pressure that ended with Brad Winchle scoring in the corner.

What followed has already been suggested by many as the try of the season. From the restart, Darren Noble fielded the ball and did well to present it back under pressure.

The ball was passed to fly-half Simon Lane who stepped inside the onrushing defender and moved the ball along the back line. The support play was superb and the ball was passed back inside to Chant before the final pass to Andrew Jones allowed him to score under the posts. Not only did the try receive applause from the crowd but also from the opposition on the pitch.

Just before the end of the first half Matt Sprague had to leave the field with what transpired to be a broken leg.

It was an unfortunate end in what was his last game before going off to university. All at Dursley hope he gets well soon.

After half-time Dursley continued to apply pressure but Saracens then scored an unconverted try against the run of play. However, Simon Lane wrapped things up for Dursley with a late score.

A TREMENDOUS second half display saw United run away with the game against the Civil Servants. Tries from Russ Peacey, Alan Smith and Lorne Ball gave the visitors a 15-0 lead.

However, the second half was extremely one-sided. Alan Ball scored two tries at the start of the half and further scores followed from namesake Lorne, Greg Keyse, Smith and Benny Price, while Rich Oldham added more points with the boot.

DURSLEY went behind to an early Civil Service try but led 12-7 at half-time after tries from John Tocknell and Josh Sheldon and a Tony Powell conversion.

Sheldon added another try in the second half before further tries from replacement Simon Stamp and prop Lindsay Woodward plus another Powell conversion made it 29-7 to the Nomads.

Tomorrow all three sides play at home with the first team entertaining Hartpury College. All support would be welcome.
