Beames and Langford run poor sharks ragged

Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One Sharpness 0 Berkeley Town 4

BERKELEY Town romped to a second local derby success in as many weeks as they took a fantastic 4-0 win from their shortest away trip of the season.

Chairman Rob Evans told the Gazette: "It was a superb all round team performance and well-earned victory."

"Everything is going well at the moment and the team spirit is excellent."

Although Town were the superior side, Sharpness really shot themselves in the foot early on with a gift of a goal. In only the second minute a ball into the box was left by a woefully indecisive Sharks' defence and James Firth was able to lift the ball over the goalkeeper and into the net.

Firth almost repeated the trick later on, while at the other end Dave Nash went close to an equaliser and Terry Stevenson made a fine stop to keep Berkeley ahead.

Town then added two quick goals just before half-time. Tim Beames made it 2-0 before Rich Langford struck a superb half volley from the corner of the penalty area to put his side three goals up at the break.

Beames finished off an excellent move to Sharpness chairman Jimmy Thomas said: "All credit must go to Berkeley for that display."

Town have the opportunity to make it three derby wins in three weeks as they entertain Kingswood at Canon Park tomorrow.
