Misses prove costly

Gerrard Hockey League Premier One Wotton-under-Edge 1 Yeovil & Sherbourne 1

WOTTON dominated their game at home to Yeovil & Sherbourne but needed a late equaliser to salvage a draw.

Player-coach Mark Pullin was able to select his team from the strongest squad available for the first time this season but Wotton struggled to find any rhythm early on.

The resultant Yeovil pressure resulted in an early penalty corner being scored by Great Britain international Rob Hill, despite James French turning the shot onto the post.

Two further efforts from corner specialist Hill produced two excellent saves from the Wotton goalkeeper to keep his side in the game.

Wotton then dominated the rest of the game, producing several chances and winning numerous penalty corners without being able to convert them into goals.

After the interval the Blues continued in the same vein, led by a good performance in the centre from Richard Stump, but still could not equalise.

However, with only three minutes left on the clock Wotton salvaged a draw as Ryan Howarth pounced on a loose ball in the circle to score his first league goal for the club.

Tomorrow Wotton play against Yate at The Ridings High School, Winterbourne (11.30am).
