A RECRUITMENT drive was ringing to the tune of success at the village church in Coaley.
The Friends of Coaley Church held a welcoming event at St Bartholomew's Church on Saturday to attract more people to join the art of bellringing. And as the number of bellringers has increased, the event was hailed a ringing success.
Bell captain Terry Chivers, along with the help of experienced bellringers from Coaley, Dursley and Wotton-under-Edge, welcomed seven novices to Coaley's church tower to introduce them to the activity.
"Everyone enjoyed the experience," said Mr Chivers.
"Several people have said that they would like to learn more. Anyone who missed the opportunity to come along last Saturday and would like join us at a practice night will be very welcome."
Mr Chivers can be contacted on 01453 890497.
The friends also held a coffee morning at the church on Saturday, which raised more than £150 for church projects.
The Friends of Coaley Church's next fundraising event will be a 1940s night with Marshfield Brass Band in the village hall on Saturday, November 12 (7.30pm). Tickets include a hot supper and can be purchased by calling 01453 890437.
