A CAM primary school has been judged to provide satisfactory education and value for money by inspectors.

Cam Everlands School, which has 210 pupils aged between four and 11, was visited by Ofsted inspectors and was described by lead inspector David Driscoll as a popular primary school where more parents wish to send their child than there are places available.

In the report published this week, inspectors commented that the school had a common purpose in developing an environment where pupils felt safe, confident and listened to.

Pupils in the reception class were judged to be taught well and made good progress in reaching average standards, while pupils in other years were judged to make satisfactory progress because of the teaching they received.

Parents were seen as strongly supportive of the school and were keen to be involved in their children's education.

Areas marked for improvement included:

* Paying greater attention to national comparisons, rather than local ones when judging pupils standards and achievements.

* When evaluating teaching, ensure sufficient attention is paid to what has been learnt, rather than just what has been taught, in order to identify how teaching quality and progress rates can be raised further.

Chairman of governors Keith Rose said: "The whole school community can be pleased that this report recognises many strengths of our school and that the inspectors found no weaknesses during their visit.

"We are happy to note and act upon their recommendations. Our governors do have some concerns about the inspection, which have been passed on to the appropriate authorities with a request for further information."
