OVER 100 new jobs will be created when Tesco opens its new superstore in Cam later this month.
With two weeks to go before the 20,000 square feet superstore is launched, store manager Steve Auty has announced that the recruitment programme has been a huge success.
Steve has been filling vacancies across all departments, ranging from security postings to the new checkouts. The 150 staff from the old Co-Op store were automatically given jobs at the new Tesco store and already over 100 new employees have joined the team.
Steve said; "We are thrilled that we have been able to create new jobs for the area enabling local people to enjoy a successful and fulfilling career with Tesco.
"The old Co-Op staff and all new employees will be taking part in a comprehensive training programme for both full and part time workers."
He added: "We believe one of the reasons for the positive response was the fact that there is the added convenience of flexible working hours."
The new superstore will offer customers an extensive range of both fresh and frozen foods as well as an in-store bakery, health and beauty, home entertainment, mobile phones and cameras, homeware, cookshop and stationery departments.
Final details of the launch day and the special activities planned are due to be released shortly, but management at the store would like to thank the local community for their patience throughout the building work.
The store will open its doors to the public for the first time on Monday, November 14 (8am).
Tesco has also announced details of a free bus service for local residents to a nearby store while the Cam store is being redeveloped.
The bus is currently running twice daily (except Sundays) from the bus stop at the bottom of Cam Pitch to the Tesco store in Thornbury from Monday to Saturday until November 12.
The bus leaves Cam Pitch at 9.30am and 12.30pm each day, arriving at the Thornbury store at 10am and 1pm respectively. Buses back to Cam depart Thornbury at 11.30 and 14.30 each day.
Weekly free bus services already exist from Cam to the Tesco stores at Stroud and Quedgeley and will continue to run.
