Arabian Fable makes great material for play

ALADDIN and the Enchanted Lamp is a new version of the most famous Arabian Nights story, written by Philip Pullman.

Best known for the award-winning His Dark Materials trilogy, Philip Pullman's vivid retelling is brought to sparkling life packed with fun, mischief and magic.

Aladdin is a cheeky, lazy good-for-nothing. He won't get a job and laughs at everyone who tries to make him behave. It takes a long-lost uncle, promises of a glittering future and a journey to retrieve a battered old lamp from a garden full of wonders for things to change.

This is the world premiere of 'Aladdin and the Enchanted Lamp', and the director Aletta Collins was associate director of His Dark Materials at the National Theatre. She has choreographed many hit shows including Dr Dolittle, Honk! And Jesus Christ Superstar. This production has been adapted by Aletta Collins and Bristol Old Vic's artistic director Simon Reade.

The show is recommended for everyone over the age of seven.

It opened last weekend and runs until January 28.

Tickets are available from the Bristol Old Vic box office.
