Light up your homes

FAMILES across the district are being asked to light up their homes in aid of a cancer charity.

Marie Curie Cancer Care is asking people to take part in its Light up Your Home campaign and ask people who come to admire the lights to make a donation.

The charity's community fundraising manager Penny Reeves said: "Every Christmas thousands of people are seized by the craze of 'house blinging' and decorate their property with fairy lights, either for fun or for charity.

"So if you already decorate your home, or would like to, then why not Light Up Your Home in aid of Marie Curie Cancer Care and ask people who come to visit your display to make a donation to the charity."

Last Christmas Marie Curie nurses working in Dursley provided shifts of home nursing care from Christmas Eve to Boxing Day meaning more people could be cared for in the comfort of their own homes surrounded by the people and things they hold most dear.

Marie Curie Cancer Care has teamed up with outdoor lights specialists Lights4Fun to give all home owners who take part in the campaign the chance to win £1,000 of festive fairy lights. All you have to do is send in a photo of your illuminated home and the most glitzy property will scoop the top prize.

Marie Curie Cancer Care is also the official charity of www.houseblinger.com The website documents the craze of Christmas house-blinging and will showcase supporters' homes.
