GFA North Senior Amateur Cup Round Three Sharpness 0 Berkeley Town 1
AN INSPIRED display of goalkeeping from Town's Terry Stevenson ensured that his side took their place in the next round of the county cup at the expense of neighbours Sharpness.
In front of a 150-strong crowd, the Berkeley number one performed heroics in a first half that saw the Sharks batter the visitors.
Stevenson kept Sharpness out before his side rubbed salt into the home side's wounds five minutes before half-time.
Very much against the run of play, Tim Beames cut into the penalty area and fired in a shot that Nick Grove could only parry to the feet of Rich Langford, who netted with ease.
Berkeley held things together much better after the break, with the back three of John Kane, Joe O'Kane and Mike Rees defending extremely well throughout.
Sharpness continued to force the pace but they still could not find a way past Stevenson.
A final chance came when Berkeley's Pete Lavis was dismissed for a second yellow card with 20 minutes remaining but Town dug in even more and held out for a terrific win.
