• Thornbury Jazz Week

  THORNBURY'S first ever Jazz Week ended on Saturday on a rousing note. Organised by Thornbury Community Association and culminating with Friday and Saturday sessions in the garden of Chantry community cente, the event also brought good jazz to most pubs in the town. read more

  I KNOW it is old news but does the Highways Agency really believe that a junction where peak traffic can manage itself without the help of a traffic light system, requires such a system to handle off-peak traffic. Maybe it's something to do with justification of expenditure. read more

• We cannot change Hiroshima's past

  ON August 6 1945, three year old Shin was riding his tricycle outside his house when the atomic bomb blasted above the city of Hiroshima for the first ever time in history. Terribly burned, he died that night. 60 years on, his tricycle still testifies how intense the heat was at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. On that fateful day, the lives of hundreds of thousands of people are changed forever. The city was filled with charred corpses. Ghostly figures with their peeled skins dangling like rags wandered in search of water. The radiation affected victims' health over a long time too. read more
