Looking to lead the pack

RUGBY teams in the Gazette region resume their season from tomorrow with everything still to play for.

At the top end of the scale, both North Bristol and Thornbury are in a position to kick on and finish the season strongly in the Western Counties North League.

Equally though, a run of poor results could see either side dragged into a relegation battle.

Both sides re-start with tough examinations - Thornbury at home to leaders Cheltenham North, while North Bristol travel to second placed Walcot.

There is plenty to play for in the Gloucestershire League as well.

Division One sides Frampton Cotterell and Chipping Sodbury have had differing seasons so far.

Both began well but while Frampton have kept up with the pace at the top of the league, Sodbury have dropped off and are languishing in mid-table.

In the second division, Dursley are enjoying an excellent season and could earn promotion if they can hold things together for another few months.

Down in Division Three South, Pilning and Wotton-under-Edge continue to do themselves proud with few resources compared to their more senior local rivals.

Both sides will have their eye on a third placed finish as leaders Tetbury and second placed Kingswood are well clear at the top.
