"THE best that we have played all season," was the way Cam manager Stuart Grimwood described his side's 2-1 win over Broadwell Amateurs on New Year's Eve.

He added: "Without a doubt, that was our best performance - a great way to finish off 2005."

The Bulldogs moved into fourth place in the league with the win, although in the end it was only earned thanks to an own goal.

The home side were untouchable in the first 20 minutes and could have scored several goals in that period.

Loz Dorman forced the goalkeeeper into a full length save early on and then Pete Holder dragged a shot across goal when Joe Iatalese was better placed in the centre.

However, Cam did take the lead on 20 minutes.

The ball went loose on the right side of the Broadwell penalty area and Dorman hit an outstanding shot on the turn that flew into the net in an instant.

The visitors came back into the game thereafter, with six foot eight inch Craig Lewis caused problems on the ground as well as in the air.

Broadwell drew level from the penalty spot on the half hour when Paul Street was harshly adjudged to have fouled his man from behind.

It was a more even game after the break, although the away side rarely caused Ben Jagger any alarm in the Bulldogs goal.

The most dangerous moment came when the ball was drilled across the Cam goalmouth but no Broadwell player was on hand to finish the move off.

Unfortunately for the visitors, one of their players was on hand at the other end 15 minutes from time.

Iatalese looked to pick out Dorman with a cross from the right and an under pressure defender crashed an own goal past his bewildered goalkeeper.

The Bulldogs closed the game out from there and took all three points.
