Terrible Tates are reunited for classy Victorian thriller

TWO of soap-land's most famous siblings, Emmerdale's Zoe and Chris Tate, are to be reunited in the Victorian thriller 'Gaslight' at the Everyman Theatre, Cheltenham from Monday, January 30 to Saturday, February 4.

This will be the first time Leah Bracknell and Peter Amory have worked together since starring as the terrible Tates, and their roles in 'Gaslight' seem to have some similarities with those they played in the TV soap.

Peter's a regular 'Mr Nasty': as well as playing Chris Tate he's also appeared as crooked copper DS Straker in Casualty. Emmerdale audiences watched Leah's character battle with mental illness, and in Gaslight she plays a similarly troubled woman.

The production is a suspenseful tale of mystery, murder and psychological drama which centres around Mr and Mrs Manningham. Mr Manningham is suave and authoritative whilst his wife is nervous, often terrified and convinced that everyone is against her. Is she insanely paranoid, losing her mind, haunted by ghosts or are her husband's accusations against her justified?

In the terrifying darkness of a winter's afternoon, in their house shrouded by smog, Bella is visited by a stranger who provides her with astonishing explanations for the mysterious happenings which have been plaguing her. Time is running out; can this stranger help Bella and what will happen when the gaslights dim again?

Written by Patrick Hamilton and set in Victorian London, 'Gaslight' was made famous when it was turned into a Hollywood movie starring Charles Boyer, Ingrid Bergman (who won an Oscar for her role), Joseph Cotton and the movie debut of a young 17 year old British actress, Angela Lansbury.

There will be an opportunity to meet cast members after the matinee on Thursday, February 2.

Tickets can be booked at the Everyman Theatre box office or by visiting www.everymantheatre.org.uk
