Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One Berkeley Town 2 Cam Bulldogs 1
TWO moments of suicidal defending handed Berkeley Town victory over Cam Bulldogs.
The visitors came to Canon Park hoping to end the Hunters' unbeaten run in derby games this season but found themselves 2-0 down in a torrid opening 15 minutes.
Barely five minutes had elapsed when Brad Price's wild mis-kick let Rich Langford in. The forward lifted the ball over goalkeeper Ben Jagger and crossed into the open goalmouth where Cam again failed to clear and Pete Lavis gleefully opened the scoring.
Inside the quarter hour it was 2-0. Price and Paul Street left a through ball to each other and James Firth was able to double Town's lead.
Berkeley could even have made it 3-0 but Andy Berry's strike a little later on was disallowed for offside.
The Bulldogs' troubles then increased further when Price had to leave the field with a horribly broken nose - though there was no malice in the challenge.
The visitors had to improve in the second half and they did just that.
A period of Cam pressure culminated with Loz Dorman tucking away a penalty on the hour after Ian Cheshire had been pushed at a corner.
With Joe Iatalese moving into a central role to pull the strings for the Bulldogs, his side pushed for an equaliser.
They should have got one too but both Dorman and Pete Holder were denied by Berkeley goalkeeper Terry Stevenson.
The win gave Berkeley their fifth league derby win of the season.
