Tommy guns down Cam

Gloucestershire Northern Senior League Division One Sharpness 2 Cam Bulldogs 1

TOMMY PATERSON hit a brace to give Sharpness victory over a lacklustre Cam Bulldogs side.

The victory meant the Sharks went back ahead of the Bulldogs in the league table and highlighted their opponents' poor away form.

Cam could not have had a better start as they went in front inside ten minutes. Tim Thomas pulled back Pete Holder in the penalty area and Loz Dorman converted the spot kick via the post.

However, that was as good as it got for the Bulldogs, who remained under pressure for much of the game thereafter.

Mike Sherman skied a chance from inside the six-yard box for the home side, while Matt Frankham fluffed another good chance.

With 30 minutes on the clock, Sharpness were awarded a penalty of their own when Danny McIntosh was adjudged to have handled Dan Halsey's header from a corner but Dave Nash dragged his shot wide.

The Sharks did draw level soon afterwards though when Paterson glanced a header past goalkeeper Ben Jagger.

After the break, the game followed a similar pattern with Sharpness creating the best chances.

Cam did offer the occasional threat but Dorman's free-kick went comfortably wide of the target.

Paterson wasted a couple of opportunities to put his team in front but he eventually secured his side's win ten minutes from time.

The front man broke clear of a static defence to challenge Jagger for a 50-50 ball, which broke kindly for the Sharpness player to find the net.
