No Fuss involved as Wotton look to Mitch to save them

FORMER Hardwicke and Stonehouse Freeway boss Mitch Fussell (pictured below) has taken over as manager of Wotton Rovers in a final attempt by the Synwell club to save their catastrophic season.

He becomes the club's fifth manager in 15 months following the tenures of Tracey Tomlin; Ian Alexander; joint managers Marc Jenkins and Mike Rodman; and Jake O'Neill.

Fussell took charge of Rovers for the first time last Saturday when they lost 4-0 at Roman Glass St George.

The decision to bring in Fussell came after previous boss Tomlin made it clear that he was stepping down at the end of the season.

With nothing to be gained by allowing the season to fizzle out, Fussell was offered the chance to take over immediately after watching Wotton recently.

Fussell has three months to try and reverse the club's fortunes and save them from relegation to the Northern Senior League.

However, he is firmly concentrating on remaining in the County League and said there would be no suggestion of writing off the rest of the campaign to prepare for Northern Senior football.

Fussell told the Gazette: "I am just looking at this season and no further than that.

"We need to try and be a bit more competitive and getting some points on the board is the obvious priority."

The new manager will be assisted by former Wotton stalwart Pat Young, who has left Cam Bulldogs to effectively become player-coach.

Young played under Fussell in the County League at Hardwicke.

Rovers are without a game this weekend and Fussell hopes to introduce a few new faces before the club's next game - a week on Saturday at high-flying Henbury Old Boys.
