Fine Ales leave unlucky Phoenix feeling giddy

Avon Netball League Division Six Phoenix II 12 Bath Ales 31

AN ILLNESS and injury-ravaged Phoenix side put up a brave fight but found the going too tough against Bath Ales.

The home side started well and settled into a rhythm, scoring the first couple of goals without reply.

Finding their feet, Bath started to score, winning the first quarter by two goals.

Phoenix persevered in the second quarter, narrowly losing it by a single goal.

In cold conditions, there were plenty of handling errors by both sides, ensuring an open game and at half-time Bath were ahead by only three goals.

However, in the second half, Phoenix's problems took their toll and Bath seized the momentum.

A succession of quickfire goals soon put the game out of reach for the hosts and they had to fight hard to prevent a runaway score.

An outstanding display by Debby Fishley at goal defence earned her the player of the match award.
