Test a real success

DURSLEY'S Test the Town challenge proved a hit with residents who gave the area a 100 percent pass rate at a recent open event.

Members of the public completed practice tests at Dursley Farmers' Market last month as part of a scheme to promote adult leaning in the area.

All participants, ranging from pensioners through to young parents, achieved a pass rate after completing multiple choice questions in English and Maths.

Over 20 people have now signed up to free courses, set to start next week, that will help them prepare for nationally recognised tests in the two subjects.

Organiser Jane Manning said: "The challenge was a big success, the venue was packed throughout the day and lots of people seemed interested in brushing up on their skills.

"I think a lot of people were surprised by the tests, some found them easier that they'd expected and others harder.

"They all realised that adult learning was worthwhile though."

The first course will take place on Monday, March 13 (1-3pm) at the GL11 Community Project building in Cam where a free creche will be provided for parents.

Further events will be held on Friday afternoons (1-3pm) at Lower Kingshill, Dursley and Rednock School on Monday evenings (7-8.30pm).

Miss Manning added: "People should come along even if they haven't been to any of our events yet, there are still places available.

"They can drop into Dursley Education Centre at any time to try out some questions or drop in on one of the courses - I urge them to get in contact."
