Pancake Tactics

ONCE again it was a spectacle to see the Dursley Pancake Race along Parsonage Street on Shrove Tuesday. It is a grand British tradition that I a very pleased is taking place on the streets of our town.

However, it has occurred to me that are there any rules to pancake racing? Do you have to toss your pancake as you run or can you simply run with it flat your frying pan?

I ask this question as our town champion Trevor Rumbelow canters down the course only flipping his pancake two or three times where as all the other contestants are tossing there pancake's frantically every step or two. By adopting these tactics Mr Rumbellow has now won the race for the last three years and frankly I can never see him being beaten, simply because by not tossing his pancake he has a huge advantage over the other competitors.

I know it is only a bit of fun and for charity, but come on committee of the pancake race - either make rules and give the rest of the competitors a chance or let's see Mr Rumbelow enter into the spirit of the race and toss his pancake a little more so that everyone has an equal chance of winning the coveted title of Dursley Pancake Champion.
