DESPITE the late arrival of daffodils this year, Slimbridge Horticultural Society's annual spring show was a blooming success.
Organisers of the show, at Slimbridge Village Hall on Saturday, were concerned that the event would not be as colourful as visitors have become accustomed to in recent years due to the late spring this year.
But despite a downturn in the number of entries for competition categories, green-fingered experts were impressed with the high standards.
Chairman of the society George "Geranium" Baker said: "It was pleasing to see so many entries from the local children's play group and local children - they are the gardeners of tomorrow and we must encourage them.
"The sun in the afternoon (do you remember the sun?) brought out large numbers of visitors, who enjoyed the show and also the tea, coffee and home-made cakes."
The society's next event - a fruit, flower and vegetable show - is in Slimbridge Village Hall on Saturday, August 19. Schedules are now available at Slimbridge Post Office or from Mr Baker on 01453 890601.
Slimbridge Horticultural Society next meets on Tuesday, April 11 (7.30pm) in Slimbridge Village Hall when there will be a talk on ferns. All are welcome.
