Support Sainsbury's

Surely it is now up to the people of Dursley and the surrounding area to get behind this project, and to put pressure on their District Councillors to see it through to a successful completion. By doing so, they will demonstrate a commitment of support for our beleaguered traders who are still hanging in there, despite all the disappointments over many years and the recent treachery of Tesco.

It is up to our district councillors to get the right outcome for the town. This is what they were elected to do. They must also ensure that there is adequate parking, during both the build and at completion, to help existing businesses and to encourage new ones.

As residents of Dursley for most of the past forty years, we would encourage everyone to back Sainsbury's move with enthusiasm: Dursley can return to being the thriving small town it was in the sixties, comparable to Wotton and Nailsworth.

On a personal note, we look forward to never having to darken the doors of Tesco again, after their shameful treatment of Dursley -and their continuing contempt for Cam ("Store forces Council to play waiting game", Gazette 31-03-06).

With the regeneration of the Lister valley and the investment in Rednock School, the coming of Sainsbury is to be encouraged in every way. The whole area will benefit from this renewal of the town centre.
