The world we live in

What a World We Live In

"WHAT a world we live in," A lady said to me. I smiled and said how true it was, She said, "More poetry!" The first line she donated, So I must build on that. Last thing we used to do at night, Don't laugh - put out the cat! So now it's chain and lock the door, Alarm switched on in case. How many are there that we trust? It's called the human race. So many folk from faraway, Who come to share our wealth. What little's left from pension, The Chancellor takes by stealth. It isn't just the money, Respect no longer rules. The worst we did was knock on doors Then call out "April fools!" We had a sense of decency, For we were raised that way. Today they dish out ASBOs, The current state of play. Looking back, recalling, We felt rich beyond compare. Saturday morning Picture House, A night spent at the fair! Times change, I'm not complaining, For memories they can't tax. Today no job is really safe, Redundancy - the axe!
