Charfield fail Service test

3D Gloucestershire County League 1st XI Division Two Charfield (63ao) lost to Cheltenham Civil Service (143-7) by 80 runs

CHARFIELD'S bowlers started the season well against Cheltenham Civil Service but the batsmen struggled as Charfield limped to defeat in their opening game of the season.

The Civil Servants were asked to bat first and found scoring difficult against opening bowlers Walwin (0-22) and Turner (1-17).

No wickets went down early on but the introduction of May (3-35) and Stevens (3-28) did the trick and had the visitors in trouble at 102-6.

However, the Civil Servants recovered from there to post an interesting 143-7 from their 45 overs.

The run chase never got going as Charfield failed to get any momentum built up.

Opening bowlers Moore and Pollard were bowled through and at the end of the 24th over the score was 41-4.

But instead of launching a recovery, the home side crumbled to 63 all out with only May (18) and Webb (13*) getting into double figures.
