IN REFERENCE to the ten flats to be built on the Castle Street car park. (Gazette, April 28). Can someone please tell me what, oh what are the powers that be trying to do to Dursley?
There isn't enough disabled and safe parking in Dursley now, you have to cross busy Castle Street with shopping to the big car park, which is nearly always full; and to top that, it's a pig to get out of unless you shop at night when the shops are shut.
As for building flats, aren't there enough flats and houses being built already, ie on Maudsley's, Lister's, Bymack's, Bailey's and the warehouse sites.
There are hardly any jobs left in Dursley unless you work in one of the few shops we have got or in one of the banks, building societies or estate agents. People have to travel out of Dursley now for work and with the price of petrol going sky high, people will be forced to move out of the area to be nearer their work, leaving Dursley to become a ghost town.
What's the point of depriving the town of a convenient little car park that has been there for years?
While they're on the build, why don't they insist on some entertainment being built into these projects, so that the young people have something to do and somewhere to go, instead of having to travel to Stroud, Gloucester or Bristol for the cinema, roller rink, skating rink or ten pin bowling. Why not ask the youngsters for their ideas?
Some time ago the kids asked for a skateboard area. Well, have you seen it? Stuck in the corner of the recreation field, for the price paid, it's pathetic.
Let's get something big going for Dursley and encourage people to come into the town, perhaps they'll then use the shops too.
