Friday, May 17 – French twinning visit

Visitors from St Ismier, in the foothills of the French Alps, made a four day visit to their twin town of Stroud. As part of their cultural exchange, organised by Stroud French Connections, they visited the Museum in the Park to view the textiles exhibition and attend a reception that was held in their honour. They enjoyed a skittles match at Painswick skittles alley.

A lovely walk in Woodchester Park was organised by the Stroud Ramblers, who went walking in the St Ismier area last year.

They also visited various Open Studios, part of the SITE festival which runs until the end of the month. You can find out more about the twinning relationship between the two towns at: http://stroudfrenchconnections.wordpress.com

Monday, May 20 – Saturday May 25 – Noise Action Week

A week to raise awareness of noise problems. Stroud District Council receives over 500 noise complaints each year. Music, noisy neighbours, DIY, dogs, noisy pubs and noise from other businesses are just a few examples which highlight the range of complaints our environmental health officers deal with each year.

With the trend for people to keep chickens at home, this time of year also sees an increase in complaints about cockerels crowing at the crack of dawn.

We’re pleased to say that most issues are resolved without having to resort to enforcement action however the option exists if needed. If you’re suffering from a noise nuisance please call us on 01453 754478 or email environmental.health@stroud.gov.uk
