CITY CHAT: Our impressive goalless run continues this year

Even though the game finished goalless there was plenty of action at both ends to keep the crowd of 15,642 on the edges of their seats throughout.

City have yet to concede a league goal this year – an impressive achievement, which also demonstrates a huge improvement on our defensive frailties displayed earlier in the season.

A clean sheet against MK was particularly impressive given they are the league’s top goalscorers, having netted sixty times in their 28 games so far.

The hosts probably had the better of a tight first half but I felt City really grew into the game in the second half and particularly in the latter stages could have nicked a goal. It was great to see Wilbraham return as well, coming on as a sub.

The striker has been out since before Christmas and will surely play a big part in the run-in for us.

On Tuesday evening we got back to winning ways with a 3-1 win over mid-table Port Vale at Ashton Gate. It’s been a decisive week at the top end of League One as both MK and Swindon lost on their travels to Bradford and Oldham respectively.

This has meant City now sit four points clear of West Country rivals Swindon and five clear of MK with the added bonus that we have a game in hand.

City weren’t at their most cohesive on Tuesday night but still had more than enough to beat Vale. JET (Jay Emmanuel- Thomas) scored a first half screamer before Joe Bryan got lucky with a deflected goal on the hour mark. Matt Smith rounded the keeper on 67 minutes to put the result beyond doubt before Marshall got a consolation for Vale following a Fielding error.

This Saturday’s home game against Sheffield United has sold-out (3pm kick off). The Blades are chasing a spot in the play-offs but have not been in great form of late.

City beat them 2-1 at Bramall Lane on the opening day of the season. Nevertheless, they have a decent squad and will provide a tough test before Peterborough United are the visitors to Ashton Gate on Tuesday (7.45pm kick off) in another League One encounter.
