ROVERS produced some scintillating attacking football as they beat Aldershot 3-1 at the Memorial Stadium on Friday night.

We started strongly, zipping the ball around the pitch with confidence, as the players looked eager to make amends for two games without a win.

The Gas got their reward in the 13th minute as Jermaine Easter, making his home debut, made no mistake with a clinical finish to open his account for the club.

He and new signing Chris Lines both shone during the performance. Easter quickly impressed the fans with his nifty ability and tremendous work rate. He never stopped running and if that desire and commitment rubs off on his teammates we will be a force to be reckoned with.

Lines showed all of his experience by bossing the midfield, threading some incisive through-balls to the attack while always being a threat from dead ball situations with his excellent delivery.

After that first goal it looked like it should be a comfortable night, with Rovers expected to add to their tally.

However complacency seemed to take hold as we then sat back and allowed Aldershot to come back into the game and equalise.

With the pressure on to secure three points, a rousing pep talk from the manager at half-time was essential and Rovers came out strongly again in the second half.

We attacked with pace and purpose and scored two excellent goals, the first a fine finish from Monkhouse and Taylor volleyed in shortly after to put the game to bed.

Normal service had resumed, with the defence looking impregnable again after a shaky spell during the first half. A crucial three points was secured in front of nearly 7,500 fans, who enjoyed an entertaining display.

Rovers returned to the top of the Conference until Barnet regained the automatic promotion position on Saturday following their thumping 5-0 win over Welling.

With six games to go all eyes now turn to this weekend’s fixtures. Rovers need to put pressure on the Bees once again by winning at Macclesfield on Saturday lunchtime in front of the BT Sport cameras.
