ROVERS secured maximum points over the Easter weekend, showing magnificent form to score eight goals in the process.

Unfortunately Barnet also achieved two victories so the Gas lie just one point behind the Conference leaders with three games to play.

We made sure the pressure was applied to our rivals by producing a five-star display of scintillating attacking football at the Memorial Stadium on Good Friday afternoon.

Goals from Taylor, Harrison, two from Monkhouse and an own goal saw Chester on the receiving end of a 5-1 demolition.

Rovers were in control throughout the contest as our hapless visitors had no answer to the power and pace of our attacks.

Our players have been known to freeze in front of a big crowd before, but this time nearly 8,500 people went home happy after watching a performance rich in entertainment.

With Barnet and Grimsby playing on Saturday, we could only sit and wait to see if either of our rivals were about to slip up. Fortunately the Mariners could only manage a draw at home to Gateshead so the Gas stayed above them. However, Barnet scraped a 1-0 win at home to Nuneaton to reclaim top spot.

Attention then turned to the Easter Monday fixtures and it was Barnet’s turn to put the pressure on as they again just managed to secure all points with a 1-0 win at lowly Dartford in a lunchtime kick-off.

Rovers knew they had to win at Kidderminster to keep pace at the top of the table and the result was not in doubt once Harrison had made the breakthrough in the 50th minute.

The young striker showed he was worth a place in the starting line-up as he continued his rich vein of form by adding another in the 83rd minute.

Taylor added the gloss to a comfortable victory by notching the third in injury time, to the jubilation of more than 2,500 travelling fans.

The Pirates need to keep up the pressure by beating Southport at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday and hope that Barnet slip up at home to Halifax.
