Motor racing: Thruxton joy for Watts
MATTHEW Watts of Retro track and air from Cam finished in 5th place at Thruxton on Easter Sunday.
He also finished first in his class in the Historic Formula 2 Trophy race, which was part of the 40 years of racing at Thruxton circuit celebration meeting.
His result was all the more impressive as he was driving against more modern cars in his 1969 brabham BT29. The event allows competitors to use cars in the series up to 1979.
Wood said: "I was outclassed with the car I was using so to be so competitive was really good news, it was great fun.
"I'm restoring a more competitive car, which is a 1977 for the latter part of the season.
On Easter Monday, Dursley Motocross rider Carl Benjamin (pictured below) finished 2nd in the MX2 experts class.
He gained 32 points from his three races on his Kawasaki 250F, at the Dave Biggs memorial meeting organised by the Cheltenham Spa MX club.
He led the first race until overall winner Lee Dunham passed him to win, and he came third in the other two races.
