Dursley suffer heavy defeat at Stonehouse
Gloucestershire Northern Senior League
Division Two;
Stonehouse Town 4, Dursley Town 0
DURSLEY Town crashed to their heaviest defeat of the season as rivals Stonehouse Town opened up the promotion race once again.
The more experienced Dursley side simply did not hold a candle to the young Stonehouse team and were deservedly beaten.
With the wind howling from one end to the other, the visitors completely failed to reap the benefit in a first half littered with aimless long balls and wayward shots.
Forwards Maz Meta and James Redman were starved of service as midfielders Lee Thomas, Steve Phillips, Steve Bennett and Antony Nash failed to settle.
In contrast, the Magpies tore apart the Dursley defence of Phil Miles, Chris Wilkins, Rich Crowcombe and Chris Lindsay after the turnaround.
Stonehouse opened the scoring with a Harry Wootton shot into the top corner five minutes into the second half and never looked back.
The home side made it 2-0 on the hour with a neat finish from Jake Davis down the right, after the visitors were exposed by a transfer of play from the left.
The killer third goal arrived almost immediately - a low shot by Mike Ashenhurst in a packed area found the net via a deflection and the post.
Goal number four was gift-wrapped from Dursley goalkeeper Keith Watson, who capped a shaky performance by dropping a catch from a long throw 15 minutes from time, and the loose ball was driven in by Peter Ockwell.
Dursley boss Chris Dolbear said: "I can't really defend our performance today - Stonehouse were better from start to finish. We didn't play to the conditions at all.
"We need to put thoughts of promotion out of our heads and just concentrate on winning our games one at a time, starting against Chalford on Saturday."
Dursley: K Watson, P Miles (A Hepworth 70), C Wilkins, R Crowcombe, C Lindsay, A Nash, L Thomas (M Holloway 65), S Phillips (L Morrissey 65), S Bennett, J Redman, M Meta.
l Dursley's home game with Chalford on Saturday is a 3pm kick-off.
