Frocester star Ben Gannon talks cricket
I WAS very honoured to take part in the pavilion opening at my former club Stroud on Sunday.
The weather denied us a full day of cricket, but it was brilliant to see a number of old faces as Stroud CC X1 took on Stroud Legends X1.
My former Gloucestershire team-mate Mark Alleyne was in fine spirits following his departure from Gloucestershire. We chatted at length in the impressive new pavilion. I'm sure a number of people connected with Stroud would love to see Mark turn out for his old side again.
I have to say I was completely stunned when the old Victorian pavilion burned down. The club must look to push on now and try and get back to the level that my current side Frocester are now competing at. The signs are good, so good luck to Paul Frape and company.
On a Frocester note, Nick Trainor and the team will be looking to improve on a poor opening to the season. In truth, it was a very bad day at the office, but we hope to rectify this on Saturday.
Finally, my former Gloucestershire mate Jon Lewis has stated he would jump at the chance to play in the Indian Premier League. I have to say I totally agree. Some of the money they're throwing around every pro would like to play in it. However, I'm pleased to see the ECB are looking at methods of increasing the shorter format of the game in this country.
