Description

This course is the perfect starting point if you want to develop a career as a teaching assistant. You will learn how to support the teacher in delivering the National Curriculum within a school. You’ll also gain the skills and knowledge required to help children and young people develop self-esteem, independence and learning abilities.

Course Content

• Prepare and maintain a safe learning environment
• Deal with emergencies, accidents and illness
• Understand the legislation relevant to health, safety and hygiene in schools
• Provide appropriate care and support to individual pupils and groups of pupils
• Support the safeguarding of children from abuse
• Support pupils' learning activities
• Promote and encourage appropriate pupil behaviour
• Understand the principles of inclusive education and support children with disabilities or special education needs
• Use ICT to support pupils' learning
• Support the development of learners’ literacy skills
• Support the development of learners’ numeracy skills

The NCFE Level 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools has been accredited by the qualifications regulators for England and Wales and is part of the National Qualifications Framework (NQF).

Qualification

After gaining your NCFE Supporting Teaching and Learning in schools Level 3 certificate you will be in a position to apply for jobs as a teaching assistant. You will also be able to progress to the NVQ in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or to aim for higher level teaching assistant (HLTA) status.

Course length

You should be able to complete the course within approximately 300 study hours and a 50 hour work placement. You will be required to submit a portfolio of evidence to show you've met the learning outcomes for each of the 11 modules, which will mostly be achieved by the work placement. You will also need to complete seven assignments.
