Saul festival line up


SAUL Festival will run from Friday, June 29 to Sunday, July 1.

More than 200 boats are expected to sail into Saul Junction for the event - ranging from historic ex-working boats, such as a 1912 Frieslands Sailing Barge, to brand new vessels straight from the boatbuilders yard. A Boat Parade, with commentary by Graham Fisher MBE, takes place on Saturday & Sunday afternoon.

All music acts have now been booked - 42 acts and four Morris sides, with two stages on dry land and two afloat. Headline acts will be Oysterband, Show of Hands & Cave - tickets for evening concerts are selling fast: visit www.junctionevents.org Saul Folk Quest has been created, to help budding folk musicians gain a foothold on the ladder to success - details at www.folkquest.co.uk There will be even more fun for the whole family at Saul Festival this year - all accompanied children up to the age of 18yrs enter the festival free of charge.

As well as the usual water-related duck hooking and model canal operating, Lockside Children's Area will host a range of activities from facepainting & foolery to swing boats and storytelling. All ages will be able to try their hand at knot tying & rope making; and even be able to take home an exact copy of your own hand cast in wax.

As ever the Moon Carrot pirates will be about the site with tall tales and trumpery from Tyburn Jig's Captain Jeremiah Obadiah & Doctor Thomas Clinker - keep an eye out for their talking rat.

Festival first timers World Jungle will present a series of African Drumming workshops.

There will also be a trade show, selling and showing marine & outdoor activities equipment.

And Riverside Green, the evening street market, is the place to find ethnic arts, crafts and clothing.

A journey across the continents is in store in Food Street - pasties, crepes, curries and doughnuts, paella, pizza and falafel, from Mexico, Spain, Asia, USA, Italy, France, Lebanon, Wales & Cornwall are all represented. Festival newcomers Pan de Mania will present their unique wood fired pizzas.

The Tea Garden will answer the need of those who like to sit down with a nice cup of tea & a piece of cake'.

The now famous Saul Wall of Beer' will be built from barrels containing a selection of up to 15 real ales, from breweries including Wickwar Brewing Co and Wye Valley Brewery.

Electric mobility buggies and manual wheel chairs are available for festival goers with mobility needs.
