THE newest exhibition showcasing the fabulous textile art by Gloucestershire born and trained Kathleen Mathews-Sanders is causing quite a stir.

The exhibition, on display at Nature in Art, Twigworth, is specifically showing work which contributed to Kathleen’s new book Stitiched Textile Landscapes.

Textiles have always been Kathleen’s career, hobby and pleasure and the pictures she creates are inspired by beautiful areas locally and around the British Isles. This display in particular demonstrates a time consuming technique that exploits all the special qualities of different materials and brings to life scenes in nature in a surprising and refreshing way.

To achieve the multitude of coloured fabrics required to produce each scene, Kathleen dyes the cotton and other natural fibre fabrics with procion cold dyes.

Synthetic organza and chiffon are used to embellish and give detail. Distressing, layering and gathering to achieve secondary colours as well as texture.

Finally each piece is heavily embroidered with viscose machine embroidery. Some pieces are also finished with hand embroidery and beading.

During this exhibition there is also chance to meet Kathleen, as she will be artist in residence at Nature in Art , Wallsworth Hall, Twigworth until Sunday, February 9. Admission charges apply.
