EVERYONE can enjoy a great day out following the Severn Vale Art Trail, run by the Thornbury Arts Festival, which takes place this year from 2 to 11 May featuring a broad section of local artists and makers from Almondsbury to North Nibley , along the A38.

This major Gloucestershire event is heralded by a taste of each artist’s work, which can be seen at a Showcase Art Exhibition in Thornbury Town Hall during the week of April 23 to May 1. The exhibition, which is also part of the Thornbury Arts Festival, is open daily except Sunday, from 10am until 4pm.

It is fascinating to visit artists in their own studios, besides six shared venues; TomatoJack Gallery in Berkeley, Celebration Fairs in St. Mary Street Thornbury, Thornbury Pound Gallery, St.Mary's Church Thornbury, Thornbury Museum and The Hatch Camphill Community.

New artists this year include Sandie Cox, accomplished photographer, painter Anna Duckworth and two very welcome ceramicists, Liz Armstrong and Clare M. Stephens. These and others join us in addition to those who have taken part since the trail was initiated by Barbara Ray of the Thornbury Arts Festival nine years ago.

Sarah Brown's exhibition, “Glass Lines” at the Castle School’s Octagon Gallery is incorporated into the trail. Her work features different techniques to make illustrations within glass. Also on the trail artists include Pandora McGee, who creates striking, contemporary PVC art, jewellers Lindsey Benson, Rosemary Millar and Gill Harkness. Don't miss Edward Salsbury, who makes intriguing sculptures from garden implements, exhibiting in Almondsbury with glass artist, Jackie Shipley.

Besides paintings in oil and watercolour, you will discover sculpture and ceramics, embroidery, photography, jewellery, wood turning, cut paper art, quilting, thread painting, stained glass work and creative textile art.

Taking to the Severn Vale Art Trail offers an exciting opportunity for several visits to view and the chance to buy good quality art. Some artists are well known others may be neighbours who will surprise you with their talent!
