CELEBRATED mosaic artist Cleo Mussi shows her latest collection at Stroud’s Museum in the Park Gallery, from July 19 to August 27.

‘All Consuming’ is a remarkable new installation by Cleo Mussi, made possible with funding from Arts Council England. A mini version previewed in May at Collect, The Saatchi Gallery in London. Now the entire new collection of intricately detailed, life-size mosaic figures is set to be unveiled in Cleo’s home town of Stroud.

This topical exhibition explores themes such as genetics, economics and sustainable practices. It comments on the evolution of the human species, our impact on the environment around us and our destructive desire to consume and collect everything.

“In ‘All Consuming’, Art meets Science in a dramatic exposition that leaves us in no doubt as to the precariousness of our current situation,” said Dr Paul Patterson. “This is served with an undercurrent of Mussi’s trademark humour, which allows us to laugh at out folly even if it refuses to offer any easy solutions.”

This mysterious mosaic world is dark and disturbing, asking difficult questions which have no easy answers. It is also full of Cleo Mussi’s unique use of witty details, wry double meanings and hidden messages. Her magic lies in creating works which delight us with their beauty, while at the same time inviting us to think about - and talk about - the challenges of our era.

‘All Consuming’ shows at The Museum in the Park’s Art Gallery in Stroud from 19 July to 27 August 2014. Admission is free and the exhibition is accompanied by workshops and holiday activities for families.
